The Cloudon application brings the Microsoft Office Suite to the iPad platform. Cloudon is the first to offer this technology to iPad, according to the iTunes website. With Cloudon, you are taking advantage of two systems that help make working on the run with a mobile device possible; Cloud and Dropbox. Cloud technology provides a way to purchase software services, as opposed to buying the product. In this case, you are using Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point without having to purchase and install the individual software. Once you complete a document on the iPad, you store it with Dropbox, an online service that gives you access to saved files anywhere you go.Download and install this application directly to your iPad via the iTunes store. The process is the same as it would be to install any program on iPad. The Cloudon software is free of charge as of publication, but the company warns that it may become a fee-based service sometime in the future.System RequirementsYour tablet must be running at least iOS 4.2 or later, and have Internet access.Getting Started• Return to the iPad home screen and tap the App store icon on the tablet desktop. This will take you to the iTunes application store.• Move to the top of the screen and type in “Cloudon” into the Search text box.Download and Installation• Once the iTunes page for Cloudon appears on the screen, tap the button that says “Free”.• The icon will change to read “Install App” — tap it again to confirm.• Enter your iTunes password into the dialog box and tap “Ok” to confirm. This step will start the installation process. You can watch the progress of the download and installation on the status bar. Once complete, Cloudon will appear on the screen.Downloading and installing the Cloudon application is not enough to use the program. You will need to create a Dropbox account. This is the server that stores all your documents. The Dropbox Basic plan allows you 2GB of space at no charge. You can obtain more room by purchasing a subscription plan.Once you have Dropbox setup, the documents you create in Cloudon will save there automatically. There is no need to sync the two programs. You can access the contents of your Dropbox from a PC or Mac or reopen the files in Cloudon.Cloudon is a viable choice for those looking to extend the functionality of their iPads. You can create letters, spreadsheets and presentations with this program. However, Cloudon is a new product and still in its first release. With all new software packages, there may be bugs and glitches. As new versions become available, you should upgrade to install patches and improvements.Cloudon offers you a help center and knowledge base that provides some answers to common questions from users. Access to this area requires a login, but there is no charge.
